Logistics
World-class Logistics
Birmingham enjoys a unique position at the hub of the UK's road, rail and air network with excellent access to the whole of the UK and also European and international destinations.
Its central location and quick access to the major population centres in the UK makes it an excellent location for distribution and sales service functions.
Due to Birmingham's strategic position many of the UK’s logistics companies already have major hubs in the area – including leading names such as TNT, Wincanton, Geologistics and Exel. More than 300 specialist distribution and logistics companies have chosen the West Midland's region as their base.
In 2004 TNT Express Services opened a multi-million pound flagship depot in Birmingham, taking advantage of Birmingham's location at the heart of the UK's motoring network. To read more about this success story for Birmingham click here.
Enhanced Communications - New M6 TollThe new M6 Toll, opened in December 2003 has further improved access to the rest of the UK, taking 45 minutes off the current M6 rush hour journey time. This view wa reinforced by John Pratt, president of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce: “The M6 Toll will act as a major boost for the city of Birmingham and the West Midlands region as a whole. In particular logistics firms will benefit from the enhanced road communications”.
“Birmingham is a very central location and most logistics firms have major hubs in the area. The M6 Toll means there are huge opportunities for these companies to grow”.
