Heart of the Automotive Industry

Introduction

The Birmingham region's automotive industry is thriving and can look forward to more prosperity.

Concentration of prime automotive manufacturers in the region is well established. Nineteen of the top suppliers have a presence in the West Midlands, including such names as Dana, Goodyear Dunlop, Denso and NSK. Altogether the region boasts some 590 businesses in the automotive sector.

Accelerate Programme

Accelerate is the major regional programme of support for automotive component suppliers in the West Midlands. The Accelerate Programme was launched in 1996 and will continue under the current phase of funding of £87 million until December 2007. It will drive forward Its primary objective of creating a World Class Automotive Supplier Base in the West Midlands.
