Indigo Photonics The first company to emerge from the photonics cluster, the company is a spin out from Aston University into the new Midlands Photonics Cluster headquarters at Aston Science Park. Following a £4m investment by venture capital company 3I, Indigo Photonics secured a partnership with the gratings division of Oxford Fibre Optic Tools. Indigo specialises in high-end products that enable fibre transmission systems to support high quality data rates over long distances.
Mermaid Diagnostics Another company based on Birmingham Research Park, it has in recent months begun to sell its products measuring toxic agents in saliva and blood.
Primecare A £3 million emergency call centre for out-of-hours doctors, giving medical advice and arranging for doctors to make consultations in the home, and is based at Summer Hill Road. Staffed by doctors, nurses and telephone operators, the centre is one of two in the country. The centre has already recruited 80 call handlers and will eventually employ around 250 staff. top of page
