Life Scienes Sector

Economic Profile

This key sector is a dynamic one with high value added and highly paid employment. Future prospects are good, too, due to a combination of rising incomes and increase in the demand for healthcare globally. Locally, the sector will be boosted by the planned Birmingham New Hospital project to replace the existing Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak Hospitals due to complete in 2009; and the Ambulatory Care Centres at City and Good Hope Hospitals, both due to open at the end of 2004.
