Following the announcement this week that yet another Government agency is to relocate the West Midlands, bringing more than 350 jobs, Birmingham City Council's inward investment agency, Locate in Birmingham, is set to showcase exactly what the city has to offer major investors at a leading industry conference in London.
To be staged on Wednesday 9th July at the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre in Westminster, The Working Space Conference brings together Government and public sector agencies with leading figures from cities potentially bidding to host them should they relocate.
Birmingham’s presence at the event comes after the Government announced that The Office for Legal Complaints – a new body that will regulate the legal service – would shortly relocate to the West Midlands.
This agency will be just the latest in a growing list of central organisations which have relocated in and around Birmingham over the last three years, including: The Gambling Commission, Capacity Builders, Big Lottery Fund, Local Better Regulation Office and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
Together with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in Coventry this means that well over 1,000 new jobs have been brought to the area through the relocation process.
City Council Leader Mike Whitby said “For Government agencies, Birmingham’s central location and excellent accessibility to London allied to the scale and skills of the local labour force are a compelling argument for being here and it is one that has convinced these major bodies.
“Locally, nationally and internationally the city’s status is ever growing and we are becoming a destination of choice for investors and agencies from all sectors and backgrounds. This London event will allow us to continue our efforts to bring ever more jobs and trade to the region, and I am confident there will be several more major announcements about Government relocations and private sector investment in Birmingham in the not too distant future.”
