February 28 2008
The highly anticipated office building Colmore Plaza has reached completion and officially launched in Birmingham today (Thursday 28th February).
The world-class building has set the standard for office development in the city with its superior specification, unrivalled technology and first class architecture located in the heart of the Colmore Business District.
Birmingham Council Leader Mike Whitby opened the building and raised a glass to its success, recognising the opportunity and influential position held by Colmore Plaza as the first ever office building of its type and quality to complete in the city.
Cllr Whitby said: 'The launch of Colmore Plaza is significant to the city and contributes to the £15 billion worth of inward investment. This furthers the reputation of Birmingham as a centre for business on an international scale and is set to attract further regional and inward investment.'
Now firmly placed as an integral landmark within the evolving cityscape, Colmore Plaza is Birmingham's biggest ever single speculative office building. It is also highly accessible and visible when approaching the city centre from the region's motorway network.
Mark Harris, Director of The Carlyle Group, said: 'Colmore Plaza is one of the biggest office schemes of its type outside central London. The high quality office space significantly contributes to the profiling of the city and represents the growing requirement from the professional community who are moving to Birmingham.
'Business occupiers will benefit from the large open floorplates and the underground storage provision which maximises the available workstation space on each floor.
'The completed building has all the features necessary to meet and even exceed occupier needs, including 'intelligent' technology and innovative designs that set the building apart from the current market place offering.'
The deal with Davis Langdon, which has taken an entire virtually columnless floorplate of 23,000 sq ft, secured the latest headline rent for the city at £32.50 per sq ft with deals for office space continuing on this basis.
The scheme was developed by Abstract Land on behalf of The Carlyle Group. Agents are GVA Grimley and Cushman & Wakefield and the Architects are Aedas.
