Birmingham's Lasan Restaurant Celebrates Awards Success at Asian Business Awards

November 28 2008

Lasan Restaurant has added to its list of award-wins following a triumph at this year's Institute of Asian Business Awards.

Lasan picked up the award for 'Best Hospitality Business of the Year' at a recent ceremony held at the ICC, Birmingham. Over 700 guests helped celebrate the achievements of Birmingham's Asian businessmen and women, in a ceremony hosted by Kulvinder Ghir, star of 'Goodness Gracious Me' and 'Bend It Like Beckham'.

The Institute of Asian Business Awards (IAB) was set up by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce in 1987 to recognise the achievements of businesses and individuals in the area. Awards included Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year and Outstanding Woman in Business. As well as being the 21st anniversary of the awards, some of this year's proceeds were donated to Barnardo's 'Safe and Sound' appeal.

Based in the heart of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter on St Paul's Square, Lasan was founded by Jabbar Khan in 2002. Since its opening, the restaurant has fast-become one of Birmingham's favourite fine dining locations and was crowned winner of the British Curry Award in October of this year.

This IAB Award is the latest in a string of accolades for Lasan, including Taste of Birmingham Restaurant Awards for 'Best Service' and 'Rising Star' (Aktar Islam); Institute of Directors 'Young Director of the Year' (Jabbar Khan); Hot / Rosemount Estate's 'Young Restaurant Manager of the Year'; and the Who's Who of Britain 'Young Business Elite'. In addition to this, Lasan also finds itself recommended in the Michelin Guide and listed in The Independent and The Times 'Top Ten of Indian Restaurants in the UK'.

Jabbar Khan, Director of the Lasan Restaurant Group says, "We are delighted to have added Best Hospitality Business of the Year to our awards cabinet; Lasan has been a great success in the six years since its opening and I am grateful that the hard work of our staff continues to be recognised. The IAB Awards champion Asian business in the city, something that I consider extremely important.

The next twelve months is a very exciting time for us; Lasan Eatery in Hall Green continues to be a great success and we have franchised Lasan Express to Sutton Coldfield and Matthew Boulton colleges. We have also launched the world's first mobile phone ordering service, which looks to be a big success for us."

In addition to the Eatery and Express, Lasan continues to champion healthy eating through cookery classes and the 'Spice for Life' cookbook, launched in association with Warwick University.
