Locate in Birmingham, the City's inward investment agency were the proud sponsors of the Diversity category at the Whitehall and Westminster World Civil Service Awards 2007 held at Lancaster House in London as part of their campaign to attract public sector relocations to Birmingham.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and 430 leading civil servants including Sir Gus O' Donnell, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service who presented the award to winner of the category Steve Imeson and the Pensions Transformation Programme - Customer Workstream, The Pension Service.

Michael Loftus, Manager of Locate in Birmingham said: 'Sponsoring the Diversity Award enabled us to highlight Birmingham as one of the most multi-cultural and diverse cities in the UK to Senior Civil Servants.

'Taking our message to London is part of a consistent and systematic effort to influence key decision makers to ensure that Birmingham is considered as a potential location outside of London.

Locate in Birmingham has been leading the City Council's response to the Lyons Review on public sector relocation in their Next Stop Birmingham campaign which highlights the City's highly skilled diverse workforce, the largest Business and Professional Services sector outside London, proximity to London which is only 81 minutes away by rail and Birmingham's quality lifestyle offer.

Michael Loftus added: 'Birmingham has already attracted the Gambling Commission and the Big Lottery Fund and these relocations show that there is a robust business case for locating government operations to the City.  We will continue with our work to attract further government relocations to Birmingham'.
