Shopping
Birmingham is a shopper's paradise, with over 1,000 shops and four department stores open 7 days a week. Large modern malls provide one-stop shopping opportunities, elegant Victorian arcades house specialist shops and fashion boutiques, major high street names line the pedestrianised streets, and large markets add local colour. Massive investment in exciting new retail developments is positioning Birmingham as a premier shopping destination.
Bullring, opened on 4th September 2003, is Birmingham's latest and Europe's largest city centre retail regeneration scheme. It contains a whole host of new shops, including both the iconic Selfridge's building and Debenham's new concept store. Since opening, Bullring receives an average of 730,000 visitors a week*. Recent figures have revealed that Bullring can officially be called the most visited shopping centre in the UK. By the end of 2007, it is estimated that over 40 million people will have visited Bullring.
Mailbox has added to the collection of top end designer stores in the city.
Major new city centre retail and mixed developments worth over £1 billion have now increased Birmingham's retail floorspace to over 2,580,000 sq ft (239,700 sq m).
Travelling into the city has never been easier either, with 24,000 car parking spaces; 129 bus routes, and three city centre railway stations. top of page
