- The University of Birmingham has around 31,000 students and a turnover of £320 million.
- Birmingham's considerable estate embraces not only its campuses at Edgbaston and in Selly Oak, Birmingham, but also at the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire, in the heart of Stratford upon Avon (the Shakespeare Institute) and on the shores of Lake Coniston (the University's outward bound Priestley Centre). - The television drama village, home to the popular BBC One daytime series Doctors, Dalziel & Pascoe, The Afternoon Play and the new drama shorts series Brief Encounters now has its main base at the University of Birmingham's Selly Oak campus
- A Media Training Centre is being established as the University already runs probably the most significant programme of media training of any UK university
- University House is now the dedicated new £20 million home of the Birmingham Business School. The School has recently been ranked among the leading providers of MBA programmes in the country
- The University's new £16.4 million home for Sport and Exercise Sciences, which has a top 6* research rating, is due to open in 2006
- The new £11.7 million student facility complex at the University of Birmingham's medical school will provide a 450 seat lecture theatre, small group teaching rooms, and a much-needed common room to create an enhanced teaching and social experience. The development has been supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the NHS, and gifts from alumni and charitable trusts. The largest single trust gift towards the complex has been awarded by the Wolfson Foundation (£1.5 million)
- On average, 400 students graduate as pre-clinical registration doctors from the University of Birmingham's medical school each year. Birmingham medical school has a strong track record and extensive experience in providing and managing clinical learning involving 56 general practices, 9 district general and 5 specialty, teaching hospitals
- The University of Birmingham's Medical School has created a Professional Development Centre response to a demand for dedicated CPD facilities. The £1 million development has been funded in partnership with the West Midlands Deanery for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education and the Birmingham Women's Hospital NHS Trust, and provides state of the art facilities for the development of training and education needs in the field of CPD. The Centre can accommodate both formal and informal learning styles in a versatile environment. The suite comprises three lecture theatres, seminar rooms and a social area
